ADOPTION INFORMATION RESOURCES
Most child-placing agencies and attorneys provide written documents describing the services they offer and the fees generally charged in an adoption. Agencies also generally provide an orientation session for adoptive parents interested in working with their programs.
Counseling for prospective adoptive parents, adoptive parents, minor adoptees, persons considering an adoptive placement for their children, and persons considering a search is available through many adoption agencies, as well as licensed social workers, counselors and family therapists.
A list of licensed adoption agencies is available upon request from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. (See under “Concerns, complaints, grievances”) For names of attorneys with a practice emphasis in adoption, prospective adoptive parents may wish to contact the state or county bar associations, or a metropolitan attorney referral resource. Adoptive family support/interest groups can be a good resource for prospective adoptive parents and adoptive parents. Birth parent support groups and search and reunion support groups may also have resources for interested persons. The Internet has many resources for prospective adoptive parents, adoptive parents, birth parents, and adoptees.
The Oklahoma Adoption Coalition is a statewide organization of adoption professionals whose purpose is to educate and promote quality adoption services. They provide a pamphlet with information about services provided by member agencies, attorneys, social workers, and others.
